Weekend of Celebration

We celebrated Chase all weekend long.

It started Friday night at The Warren with 22 Jump Street and ended in Arlington with the Texas Rangers. 3 days of birthday?! I’d call that a success.

Saturday morning, his actual birthday, began with birthday french toast. If you were curious, the sprinkles make it “birthday.” I mean you can’t properly celebrate without sprinkles on your birthday.

He opened his birthday gift – a new handheld GPS for his upcoming elk hunt, watched the Brazil vs. Chile game over cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries at The Garage, and spent another couple of hours at our favorite place, The Warren movie theater.

We watched Transformers in the Director’s Suite. The Director’s Suite is awesome. 20-25 seats, a full service restaurant/bar, and over-sized seats that recline and have seat warmers. I mean… it’s perfect. We are so spoiled by The Warren that we can’t go anywhere else. It’s ridiculous.

Transformer’s was decent. Just what would you expect from a Michael Bay film – lots of explosions, awesome special effects, weak plot. It was crazy long, but Mark Wahlberg is a much better tough guy than Shia LaBeouf. Afterward, we couldn’t stop talking about the amount of product placements that are sprinkled throughout that movie. It was almost laughable. Watch it and count.

For dinner, he requested a steak from Charleston’s and a birthday buttermilk pie.

Buttermilk Pie

Buttermilk Pie

Chase gets plenty of cake around our house, so he always requests another form of dessert for his birthday. If you’ve never had a buttermilk pie, it’s basically a sweet custard in a pie crust. Kind of like a southern version of creme brûlée. We’ve tried several different recipes but he says this is his favorite one yet! I’ll post the recipe tomorrow!

We woke early Sunday and headed straight to Arlington. My dad invited us to the Rangers vs. Twins game and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The weather was fantastic and we were lucky enough to snag tickets in a suite! Air conditioning, food and drinks to feed 10 people for a week, and outdoor seating under an awning. This was an added bonus for me – I don’t do sun. The sun is a monster.

It was a beautiful day at the ballpark!

This weekend couldn’t have been any better. Good food, good times, good company, and great weather. It was the perfect way to celebrate my guy.

28 looks good on you.

June 28.

The Treaty of Versailles was signed, Mercedes-Benz was formed, Mike Tyson bit off Evander Holyfield’s ear, and Chase Bridgforth was born. Solid day.

He still makes my heart flutter.

He still makes my heart flutter.

We are going to spend the day doing absolutely anything and everything my outdoorsman desires. I’m still not quite sure what all that entails… but I think a nap, good food, and buttermilk pie are all going to be a big part of his special day. 🙂

Hunting in Wyoming

Chase, you have officially lived 10,227 days and I have loved you 3,448 of them.

Happy Birthday, Carnivore. You are my favorite.

It’s a nice day for a Brown wedding.

After the sun salutations and morning yoga class, the hubs and I packed up the car and headed north to Owasso. My little cousin Katy was getting married!

Throwback – Katy and I at my wedding.

We loaded the car with clothes, cake supplies, and most importantly, the wedding cake. Because the wedding was a few hours drive from Norman, I took the cake completely unstacked to the reception hall. Four individual cake boxes and a HUGE box filled with all the supplies I would need to finish the cake filled the back of my car.

We arrived at the church around 2:30 p.m. and immediately got busy! I love having The Carnivore’s help when stacking a large cake. He’s pretty great at making sure each tier is level before moving on to the next. Only downside – his thumbs make some pretty large indention’s in buttercream. Nothing that can’t be fixed though… 😉

By the time the cake was stacked and finished it was closing in on 4:30 p.m. and the wedding started at 5! It was a sprint to finish my hair, make-up, and change clothes.

The sanctuary was beautiful. Katy’s now husband, Greg, built this arbor and transported it log by log to the church. Isn’t it amazing?! I overheard a few people trying to figure out the best way to take it home with them without Greg knowing. 😉 It was really neat.

Oh! And to really take things over the edge – when Katy was walking down the aisle I kept trying to figure out what song was playing. None of us recognized it. Come to find out it was a song Greg wrote for her and SANG! Chase – take note.

Katy’s wedding was a rustic chic sort of theme – burlap runners, tree trunk ring centerpieces, and a BBQ feast!

Katy's Candy Bar

My Aunt Tammy will want me to point out that Katy’s candy bar is on her flower cart (she’s really proud of this thing).  You should also ask her about her lime tree…

And my shining moment. The cake. I was so proud of how this turned out. It’s been A LONG time since I made a cake this big. I was really, really happy with the result.

I cannot believe Katy is old enough to be married. I am so proud of the sweet young lady she has become. You cannot find a more caring and generous soul. I am so happy she found the one that makes her happy. You deserve everything Katy-girl!
